Who is Andy Mapple? Andy Mapple was born in Preston Lancashire England on 3rd of November 1962. He began skiing at the age of 13 and a few years later he was already part of the British National Team. To expand his possibilities he moved to Florida in 1981 and became one of the best slalom skiers to have ever existed!!
Andy Mapple in business In the last 12 years Andy was responsible for the designs of all skis in the Obrien range. In March ‘05 he left Obrien in mutual agreement. Andy has big plans for slalom-skiing in general: he wants more people to take part and have fun in the sport, he wants to reach a bigger group by more promotion for the sport and he wants to give the sport a younger image. To support and reach these goals Andy wanted to set up his own range of skis. He could not bring these plans in action at Obrien so he contacted Herb Obrien, the owner of Jobe and a long time friend of Andy and his family. Herb Obrien gave Andy the freedom he desired what has lead to the finest range of high-end slalom skis Jobe ever had in its range.
Jobe and Andy Mapple succeeded in keeping their cooperation a secret till Surf Expo in Orlando. At that show in September ’05 the Jobe/Andy Mapple skis were presented for the first time and it was a great surprise for everybody in the business. During the Surf Expo many interested people visited the Jobe stand to find out all about the new range of skis and Andy himself was there all week to inform them.
Andy and Jobe have shown to be totally dedicated to their new ski range and we are convinced that this cooperation will lead to great success all over the world!
General aspects of the Andy Mapple ski range:
• All skis are designed with the idea in mind that the first impression somebody has on a ski should be great. That is why Andy gave all skis (even the high-end) special features to create a very stable feeling.
• Andy designed all skis with a unique 2-stage rocker. 99% of all skis on the market have a continuous rocker. The Andy Mapple skis have a 2 stage rocker: the 1st flat spot is in the middle (creates ability to turn) and the 2nd flat spot is at the back (this makes the ski faster because it doesn’t rock all the way to the back). This is really an innovation and Andy in convinced it will be a great success.
• All skis in this range are tested thoroughly by skiers of different levels to be sure everybody will enjoy skiing on an Andy Mapple ski.
• The fin blocks on all skis have a thinner more narrow profile and have black color what gives the skis a slick look that no other brand can compare to.
Made by Andy Mapple
For 2006, we wanted to work with the best to come up, with the next generation of total performance in slalom ski technology and Andy Mapple delivered. Experience, Success, Consistency, and Dominance, that would some up just a few of Andy Mapple’s traits. With the experience, knowledge, and commitment that have been designed into this ski, we need to say little else.
The MPD is a ski that not only will rock the highest end of slalom skiing, but the features of this ski make it one of the most stable skis to ride, no matter what level skier, allowing everyone to be a superstar. The specifically designed rocker and flat spot will allow the ski to establish its own sweet spot, and a tail rocker (pivot to flat) that allows for the ski to hook up out of the turn faster and more efficiently than ever before. The full concave bottom design rolls into a specially tested and designed bevel, to make the ski have a rock solid feel both on edge and during a coast, translating into complete feedback to the skier. The MPD features our ultra-light U3 core, machined to a perfect fit which allows us to have this ski weigh in at an unreal 3 lbs, not to mention incredible consistency in flex pattern. Welcome to the new benchmark in competition slalom skis. Customers will also have access to the expertise of Andy in the setup and adjustment of their skis via e-mail. Andy himself will help you out with any questions you may have regarding the setup of your new ski.
